| Canadian player Sorel Mizzi, who has a storied past that includes several scandals involving cheating, seems to be trying to succeed the right way.
After an online scandal, where Mizzi purchased a full tilt account in the midst of a tournament on the way to winning said tournament, Mizzi was labeled a multi-accounter and online cheater. Amidst claims that he felt he had done no wrong, he set out to try and clear his name. Soon after, he admitted, after being outed by several other players, that this had been a pattern for him.
Some time passed and the scandal seemed to go away. He was once again allowed to played on PokerStars and Full Tilt, though some players in the community still doubted his integrity.
Right around the time his accounts were re-instated, when people saw him playing a major FTOPS event on Full Tilt, scandal seemed to strike again. It wasn't bad enough that people were upset at seeing him online again, but now he was being accused of live cheating involving a November 9er and runner up in the 2010 WSOP main event, John Racener.
Though both scandals seemed to have been "forgiven" or forgotten over time, the shadow of "cheater" has still hovered over him. Throughout all of this he has played in some of the biggest tournaments, facing some of the best players in the world, and posting some decent results.
Now, seemingly free from the scandals, and with the cheater label somewhat in the past, he has notched a special achievement in his poker career. Facing some stiff competition including Vanessa Selbst, Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari and Phil Laak, amongst others, Mizzi has propelled himself to winning the Party Poker Premier league VII which was held in Montreal. His take home prize of $466,000 total(including heat prizes), was well worth the $125k buy-in.
Let's hope that this is the emergence of a respectable Mizzi, with no more scandals, and all the potential in the world.
Congratulations Mr. Mizzi, keep up the good work, stay honest, and do whatever you can to make us all proud of a Canadian who achieved great success at the first Premier league held here in Canada.
